It Takes Patience
Chapter 14: ER
Before I could get to Harry nurses ran to his side to check his forehead and see if he had an escalated temperature. They escorted him to the restroom as a custodian came to mop up his sick. When I got out into the hallway, I saw a nurse going into the restroom with Harry who was objecting on her being there even as he held his hand over his mouth and turned to be sick again. When I reached her, I tried to go in and check on him but she wouldn’t let me.
“Can I help you dear?” She asked me blocking the doorway.
“Yes, um I’m just trying to check and see if he’s alright. I’m an intern here and I was supposed to be shadowing him today. He got sick upstairs earlier because he didn’t eat with his meds.” I tried to explain, but she still didn’t let me past her to check on Harry, who was now violently ill.
She looked at me and pursed her lips before looking back at Harry. She finally stepped aside and as another nurse walked up and soon as she did I rushed in behind H. to rub his back again. He didn't reject me this time. I heard the two nurses discussing an ambulance on its way for Harry to take him to the emergency room, but I hope for his sake they get here soon. I can tell from just touching his back that his temperature has indeed spiked a bit and he looked so weak as he emptied the non existent contents of his stomach into the toilet bowl.
When the paramedics came with a bed they got Harry out of the bathroom and handed him a bucket before they started to wheel him away to the ambulance. When I followed and got in the ambulance with Harry, I texted Dr. Baker to let her know that we would miss the session today.
To: Dr. Baker
Harry is really sick so we’re on our way to Lambeth Hospital. I highly doubt we will make it to session.
About two minutes after I sent the text I received another back from Dr. Baker
From: Dr. Baker
Oh dear! Tell me as much as you can about what’s going on so I can inform his mother. Glad you told me. Be sure to keep me updated also.
I began to tell Dr. Baker about Harry's condition when my phone vibrated again, but this time the text was from an unknown number.
Hi Reagan, this is Peyton I got your number from Laurie. I hope that’s alright. I’m really excited about our date tonight :) Btw, is your friend alright? Xx
I texted Dr. Baker back quickly before we got to the hospital and waited to respond to Peyton until I found out what was going on with Harry first. After we entered the hospital, they began to run test on him leaving me quit nervous in the waiting room. I sat in bland beige room with a few others and started thinking as my eyes took in my surroundings. They didn't even bother to send a guard with Harry to ride in the ambulance with us. This must be a hospital that all of the patients get sent to when they're sick. I glanced around the room once more when I saw Harry's mom walk up in in distress.
“Reagan is that you? Is Harry alright?” she asked when she saw me, clearly upset from the news about her son.
“He will be okay I think they’re running some blood test on him now to see what caused all of the vomiting. He was being sick for at least an hour.” She sat down and relief filled her eyes
“I’m glad you were with him. Sometimes he can be such a loner, especially when he feels he would be vulnerable.” She grabbed my shoulder and mouthed the words ‘thank you’ as the doctor came up.
“Ms. Cox?” the doctor approached Anne and began to tell her that Harry would be fine and that his blood work showed that he ingested medication that should not be mixed with each other. He told her that they would like to hold him over night just to keep an eye on him then informed both of us of what room to find Harry in. Anne began to walk in that direction gesturing me to follow her.
When we got into the room Harry was sleeping and hooked up to an IV machine that a nurse explained to us was just for him to receive fluids. I went to sit in a chair in the corner to text Dr. Baker Harry’s results as his mom stroked his forehead waking him up. She whispered something to him that was inaudible to me and kissed his cheek. When I finished sending the text, I saw that Harry’s eyes met with mine while his mother spoke to him. Before she left, she turned to me asking me to watch over her ‘baby boy’.
This chapter is kind of short compared to the others I have written. The others will be longer due to the detail that has to go in them. Things are about to start getting heated ~hint hint~ Love you for reading comments and subscriptions please
