Chapter 52: Release Me

*Reagan’s POV*
When I got in the bed, Harry’s eyes were already open and he was smiling at me. He still looked tired, but it was definitely better than he was earlier today.

“Do you feel a little better rested?” After I ask the question, Harry puts his hand to my cheek and I lean into it.

“Yeah a little. Who were you talking to on the phone?” H. moves his hand from my cheek down to my side and pulls me closer to him.

“My mom, there might be a chance my dad can help me extend my visa. He travels a lot for work plus he’s a lawyer, he can probably talk to someone persuasively to get it expanded.”

“I told you everything would handle itself.” I rolled my eyes before Harry kissed my lips briefly and then looked at the clock in my room and stood from the bed putting on his jeans.

“I’ve got to go or I’ll be late to session and I want to be on time to raise hell for Dr. Baker and Dr. goofy fuck Leerman.”

“Harry don’t go in causing trouble, please? They are only doing their jobs.” Harry finds his shirt in a wrinkled mess on the floor and tugs it on over his head.

“Reagan, there’s such thing as doing your job too well. They fired you, fine. I get that. They didn’t have to revoke your visa and cause extra headache though. Even though I know that was Leerman...fucking tosser with no goddamn life of his own! He thrives on making others miserable!” Harry’s eyes turned a shade darker and he continued to rant while he put on his converse.

“Harry just try to be civil. I may have gotten this figured out.” Harry softened his expression and bends slightly to kiss me before he opens the door to leave the apartment.

“I love you Reagan, so much.” The words send fire through my veins as soon as they roll off of his tongue.

“I love you Harry, so much.” Harry grinned and kissed me again. His cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink before leaving to go to his session.

*Harry’s POV*
Nothing in me wants to even go to this stupid session. I literally have nothing to say to Baker and if I didn’t have so much riding on me going, I wouldn’t. When I get into the office I have to wait for Dr. Baker to join me. For someone who is such the fucking stickler for being on time and following rules to the letter, I think she should be in her goddam office before me. She opens the door and speaks, but I say nothing to her and look at the doctorate she has hanging on the wall opposite me.

“Harry, I said how are you?”

“As if you give a fuck.”

“Harold language! Use your words not vulgar outburst you know the rules. Would this have anything to do with Ms. Stoger?"

“FUCK the rules Elizabeth! It has EVERYTHING to do with her and you know it! Her visa! You revoked her visa?! Was firing her not bad enough? You had to send her away and make it worse than it should be?!”

“Harold, none of that was in my hands. It’s the rules of the hospital and a very strict rule at that. No staff is allowed relationships with a patient, whether they are temporary or full time. I shouldn’t have given her the option of you for a case study and none of this would have ever happened. The heartache that you feel wouldn’t be here, and for that I apologize. If there is anything I can do I will do it-”

“Then extend her visa.”

“That isn’t up to me Harold, I’m not the director of the hospital.”

“Then you’re saying there’s shit you can do and I don’t believe that! That doctorate and all these fucking awards in this office have to give you some kind of pull!” I was shaking with anger and had to calm myself quickly before it got out of hand. I don’t want to be put back in the hospital for losing my temper on a doctor. Dr. Baker sighed deeply then looked at me over her glasses.

“I can see what I can do Harry. You have made major progress over the time that you’ve spent with Reagan. So much so that when Dr. Leerman and I looked over my notes on you and what she finished of her case study on you we got in contact with the board.” I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and Dr. Baker reached into her desk. She pulled out a manila folder and opened it then signed the paper that was in it before sliding it over to me and handing me a pen.

I looked down at the papers in front of me and read them to myself at least three times before it clicked in my head what they were.

“My discharge papers? They’re letting me go?!” I looked at Dr. Baker and she smiled at me while nodding her head.

“I am still requiring you to see me twice a week every other week in the month, but you will be here by released from the care of the hospital.” I looked at her in shock and I don’t know what to say.

“You can sign there at the bottom. Your mum should be here shortly to sign the other part. I was in a conference call with her before I came in here with you, that’s why I was late.”

I looked down at the paper again and sign it with a shaky hand. Two and a half years behind me. Two and half years of living in a jail away from jail and being away from those that I love the most are all behind me. I put the pen down and saw the smallest drop of water fall onto the ink smudging it and it wasn’t until I put my hand on my face to pinch my bottom lip that I realized the water was coming from me. I moved my hands to my face to quickly wipe away the tears that were falling. I haven’t shed tears in a long time and the feeling is foreign to me. There was that time that I came close when I was telling Reagan about that unfaithful night that put me here in the first place, but I usually can always control them like I did that day with her. I learned how to do that here after a while and promised myself once I had mastered it, that I would never cry in front of anyone anymore.

There was a knock at the door and when Dr. Baker went to answer it my mum and my sister came into the room. It was clear that my mum was crying on the way here and she immediately started bawling when she saw me sitting at Dr. Baker’s desk. I become amused and afraid at the same time when I think about her driving to the hospital with tears of joy streaming down her face. I’m sure for the twenty minutes that it took her to get here the roads weren’t safe. She signed the papers and then stood to hug Dr. Baker and thank her for all that she’s done for me and her and our family in general before she pulls me into a hug and cries more.

“Mum I love you too, but I can’t breathe and your hair is in my mouth.” I can hear a choked chuckle coming from Gemma who was also crying, just not as hard as my mum.

“I’m so proud of you Harry, my baby.” She still hasn’t let me go.

“Mum I’m coming home you can let me go I’m not staying here anymore.” She laughs and then wipes the mascara that was running under her eye away and before we all walk out of the building together, Dr. Baker hands me another manila folder.

My mum and Gemma parked next to me and when I get in my car, Gem motions for me to roll down my window.

“You’re coming home?” My mum shouts past Gemma who jumps from the loud noise in her ear.

“Yeah later, I have to make a stop first.”

“Harry you’ve been out all night! Make sure you come home I’ve called people to come over to celebrate.” My eyes widen slightly and I cringe internally. The last family and friends get together didn’t end so well from what I remember of it. I shake my head yes in agreement before she pulls off.

I open the folder in my lap and I see a cover page with Reagan’s name on it. It’s a copy of Reagan’s notes and what she wrote on me.I briefly read over some of the things she wrote and I realize that part of the reason I was discharged is because of her. She helped me at times when I know I didn’t deserve to be helped. I put the folder down and my heart beat quickens as I drive to her apartment.

Are you home glasses?

From: Glasses

I’m just at Laurie’s house. Niall is here. How was your session?

I get to her building and get buzzed in by the doorman. When I get to the elevator I go to Laurie’s floor and knock when I get there, manila folder still in hand.

*Reagan’s POV*

When Niall opened up the door and greeted Harry, Laurie and I both started to laugh. Instead of the normal ‘hey’ or ‘what’s up’ they fought to put each other in a headlock leaving the door wide open. Niall won and Laurie stood up from her place at the table to close the door behind the two. Harry is in a genuinely better mood than he was earlier today and to see him in a playful mood with his friend makes a stupid grin cover my face, splitting it from ear to ear.

“Say uncle!”

“Niall, the smell of your armpits is making me woozy!”

“Say it!”

“I have news and I can’t tell it if I can’t breathe!” Harry’s tone is excited. So much so he sounds like he may explode if he doesn’t get it out soon. Niall let him go. He must have noticed the same thing that I have.

“They let me go! I was released!” My heart sped up in my chest and tears pricked at the back of my eyes. He has been through so much and whether he realizes it or not, he has come out strong through all of it. It takes a lot for a person to be able to go through what he did and still maintain a sense of normalcy. I am beyond happy and proud and in love with this man. Before I could congratulate Harry, Niall jumped on him screaming and laughing causing them both to fall to the ground, Niall on top of Harry.

“YER NOT LYIN?! ARE YOU TELLIN THE TRUTH HARRY?! DON’T PULL MY LEG!”

“Yes Niall! Why would I lie about being let go?” Harry Laughed and then pushed Niall off of him.

“AHHHH HAAAHHH Call the lads!! We’re celebratin’ t’night!” both boys stood and Niall got on the phone to call everyone. Laurie walked up to Harry and hugged him congratulating him and when H. Got to me he grinned, wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into a kiss that I’m sure shocked Laurie and Niall both. I melded into the kiss not caring who was watching and put one of my arms around his shoulders and allowed the other to rest gently at the nape of his neck to play with the curls there before he broke the kiss and whispered into my ear.

“If you can’t stay. If they don't extend your visa, I’ll go to California with you. I love you Reagan.”
