Noah Joseph Hemmings, the son of Luke and Amanda Hemmings was born eighteen years ago. He lives in Sydney Australia with his parents. But there's something wrong with Noah, he as a speech impediment, he stutters. He was born with it, but he's not sure why, or what happened to him when he was in his mothers womb. But his mother seems to know but just won't tell him, she's also not telling him why the scars on her back are there. After asking for years as a child Noah had given up since he had gotten no answers and only caused his mother to cry and his father to become angry at him. But it still bugs Noah, he's curious and wants to know what's on his mothers back more then why he stutters. Noah loves mysteries, but he can't seem to solve this one.
Noah meets his new best friend JJ or Junior, at a local cafe after school. Junior has some problems himself, he's adopted, Junior doesn't know his parents, he only knows a few things, where they came from, and that he's named after his father. He's not sure if it's name since his adoptive parents always called him JJ or Junior. Just like Noah, Junior wants to know about his real parents, badly. So he made plans to leave to Canada where his parents are from after he graduates. Noah knows that's where his mother his from, and knows that the answers to what his parents aren't telling him could be in Canada. Noah tags along in hopes to find out his mothers past and help Junior along the way, and hopes to gain a friend who won't be annoyed away by his stutter. After giving his uncle Jacob a call, Noah gets a place for him and Junior to stay as they both dig deeper into the mysteries of their own parents.
