Good For You
My eyebrows knitted together as I heard pants coming from the living room. I stop in the doorway, not wanting to exit the foyer. Mr. Styles was sitting on the couch, his back to me. I gulp gently, slowly letting my mind process what he might be doing on the leather sofa. I could feel my blood slow, my heart rate was dropping – what if he really is doing what I think he’s doing. I hold my breath as I step into the living room, my feet are like feathers as the barely touch the floor.
I take inhale a deep breath before letting words leave my mouth, “She went down easy.. she should sleep for a few hours.” I speak aloud into the quiet room. Mr. Styles leans off the couch some and turns his head to look over his shoulder at me. “Good, we can talk now.” He nods lightly, gesturing me with his hand to join him on the couch. I relax my tensed body as I cross the living room and reach the couch he has placed himself on.
“What is it that you wanted to talk about again?” He asks curiously as I sit down on the opposite end of the couch. His body shifts, propping his long legs on the space neither of us is taking up. He smiles at me as he crosses his arms on his chest, his jade eyes intensively gazing at me. I swallow the lump in my throat, relax and just speak to him. Be normal, Jenny, be normal for one time in your life.
“Well.. it was about a mistake I made.” I admit, nervously picking at my fingernails as I stare down at my lap – I refuse to look over at him. From the corner of my eye I see him tilt his head lightly, curious about what I’m referring to. “And what is the mistake?” Mr. Styles questions, his voice smooth and soft as it finds its way inside my ear. I shake my head lightly to myself, trying to get rid of all these damn thoughts – I can’t stop thinking about him, god he drives me insane.
His body is still without a shirt – I wish I could just bark up and say something, but it’s his house and he does as he pleases. I bite the inside of my cheek hard, almost so bad that it hurts. I glance over at him, those piercing eyes still staring at my helpless body on the couch. He crosses his ankles, his feet only a few inches from me. “I shouldn’t have let you.. do that.” I mumble under my breath, but something in the pit of my stomach just tells he heard it. He has three kids, two of which can be sneaky – I just know he hears everything.
“Let me do what?” He inquires with a laugh laced in his tone, those eyes never once leaving my body. I find myself staring at the floor, as long as I’m not looking at him I’m fine. “T-touch me.. the w-way you d-did.” I stammer over my own words, way to go for power and courage – I never once said I had those, because I don’t. My head shifts so that I could see his reaction. He lifted an eyebrow as his eyes narrowed at me. My heart starts to beat unsteadily, and my lungs aren’t taking in an even amount of air with every inhale. Nervousness washes through my body.
“So you’re saying.. that you shouldn’t have allowed me to do what I did?” Mr. Styles asks, his lips drew back in a snarl. Seconds later I begin to feel my palms get sweaty, this isn’t going well. Why did I even mention this to him? “Not to be rude, love.” He starts as he sits up from his relaxed position. I watch him move on the couch, his bare feet hitting the floor as he stood up. My eyes followed his movements. He stepped in front of me, his broad, muscular body towering over me. I’m staring at his feet, even the muscles in his ankles are flexing as he stands there.
His pointer finger and thumb grabbed my chin and he roughly jerked my head up. I wince slightly at the pain in the back of my neck, why is he being this way? I hold the air in my lungs, I’m too afraid to even blink right now. His hand drops from my face, but I don’t dare move a muscle. Mr. Styles crosses his arms, his lips in a straight line as he stares down at me. His eyes burned with anger – his eyebrows furrowed as if he was slightly confused by what I told him.
“Last time I checked.” He sighs lightly, his expression never changing. “You babysit my kids. Not me.” He adds in, his voice getting deeper. He appears to be mad over what I said – it was the truth, I should have stopped him. “You work for me, bitch.” He snaps suddenly, causing me to flinch lightly at his harsh insult. “You’re in my fuckin’ house. You don’t dare tell me what I should and shouldn’t do. If I want to touch you.. then I fuckin’ will.” Mr. Styles’ voice is dead – no emotion runs through him.
“I’m.. I-I’m s-sorry.. I-I just don’t t-think it’s v-very.. uh.” I stop myself, shut up and just let him finishing his complaining. “It’s not very what?” He asks, cocking an eyebrow at me, his eyes widening as he stares down at me. My head falls in shame, I can’t believe I’ve made a fool of myself. This man has nothing but power over me, he can fire me in a second and I’ll be stranded with no money to pay for my apartment. He could ruin my entire future, so why the hell am I so stupid? Just shut up!
“P-professional.” I murmur under my breath. “Look at me.” His gravelly voice demands, his hands balling into fists at his side. My head shoots up and his eyes catch my nervous stare. “It’s not professional when you glue your eyes to my chest. Now is it?” He questions, turning his head slightly at an angle. My eyes drop from his and I find myself allowing them to run over his bare chest, the beautiful tanned skin covered in ink, it all perfectly ties together and creates a wondrous image: Harry Styles.
“You’re doing it now.” Mr. Styles snaps his fingers in front of my face and I felt the blush crept up on my face. “That’s what I thought. Not so professional, hm?” He states before walking off in some other direction. I exhale deeply, my back relaxing into the couch. What have I done? Well, let’s start from the beginning, shall we? You picked a nerve, you angered him, you pissed him off – and no you’ve probably lost the nice version of him. Say good bye to the compliments, they won’t be back any time soon.
It’s been nearly ten minutes since I was left alone downstairs. I’ve never really experienced this huge house so quiet before, but I guess I can’t complain – it’s my fault. I should’ve just kept my mouth shut, but as usual I always break under pressure and let my mouth take over my mind.
A sigh escapes past my lips as I step quietly into Natalie’s nursery, gently shutting the door behind me. I have no clue where Mr. Styles went, he could be out back or he could have left – I don’t know, and honestly it’s bothering me. I didn’t intend to tick him off, I would never purposely do that. My eyes linger down to the bottom of the crib. A smile finds its way to my face as I see Natalie peacefully sleeping. She’s so adorable, how could a mother leave their baby behind?
I shake my head lightly to myself, it’s none of my business – Mr. Styles’ personal life is absolutely none of my damn business. I gulp gently as I hear the door creak open, my heart almost stops as I realize who the only other person in the house is. The shuffling across the carpet ends within seconds – a warmth is suddenly behind me and there’s nothing I can do.
“Is she okay?” His raspy voice erupts into the silence, it’s soft but just as deep as it is normally. I bite the inside of my cheek as I nod my head slowly in response, if he thinks I’m going to speak to him then he’s crazy – he’s lost his mind. Oh shut up, you know if he said something you’d reply verbally, stop trying to be so tough when you’re obviously not. “I didn’t know you were in here.” He mumbles to me, his hand grazing the small of my back as he steps beside me.
I decide not to say anything back, perhaps he just wants me to stay quiet and appreciate the silence – but part of me is screaming that that’s stupid, talk to him. No, stop – I’ll speak when the time is right, when I need to. “Why’d you come in here?” Mr. Styles questions me using the same soft voice as a few moments ago. I take a deep breath, slowing exhaling through my nose. “To check on her.” I murmur, my eyes never leaving Natalie’s sleeping body. I don’t want to look at him, I don’t even want to be in the same room as him – but somehow I’m keeping my strength up and handling the pressure.
His large hand firmly presses against the bend in my back, just about my butt. I feel my muscles tense as I notice how close his hand is from touching my behind. My eyes slowly close, please. “Do you think I made a good choice?” He asks me with a sigh. I open my eyes at his words, what is he talking about? I furrow my eyebrows as I shift my head to look up at him. He finally has a shirt on. Instantly I figured I would meet his green eyed stare, but instead I don’t – his eyes are staring down at Natalie, he’s biting his lip like he’s nervous about whatever it is he’s thinking. Have you ever thought he might actually be nervous? Well, no.. He always seems so confident and-
“I need to stop doubting myself. Of course I made the right decision.” Mr. Styles unexpectedly says, rolling his eyes to himself. Perhaps this question wasn’t for me to answer, but it was meant for himself. “What.. what are you talking about?” I ask in a light voice, I’d hate to wake her while she’s sleeping so good. His eyes cut to me for a few seconds, probably shocked that I spoke to him. He looks back down at his sleeping daughter, furrowing his eyebrows as he gets lost in his thoughts again. Somehow, he manages to take a breath and answer my question.
“Rebecca didn’t deserve to be here.. She treated them horribly. I.. I don’t even know how I put up with her.. for.. for so long.” Mr. Styles mumbles, his eyes never leaving their spot on Natalie. I look back down at the baby, perhaps this wasn’t my spot to talk about this – maybe he just wants to get it out though, yet maybe he needs to talk to someone about it. “From the things.. I have witnessed.” I say after lightly clearing my throat. I can feel his fiery stare on me, the vibes he sends off are intense at times.
“She wasn’t a good mother. I don’t know what went on while I wasn’t here.. but I’ve seen and heard a lot.” I shrug my shoulders lightly, making small talk about this topic is awfully odd to me. I don’t see why he would want me to know about what happened in their private lives. “She was horrible. I was going to leave her a few months after Gabriella was born.. The only reason we stayed together was to have Charlie.. We didn’t want Gabby to grow up as an only child.” He admits to me. I raise my eyebrows lightly to myself, I didn’t know that.
“We broke things off for a while.. she still lived here. It was a mistake, I shouldn’t have let that happen. And then.. last year she came home drunk and.. I just.. couldn’t stop myself. It had been months since I’d had any action.. The only good thing I got out of her from that point on was my little baby.” Mr. Styles lets a huff pass through his lips as he leans his arms on the crib, staring down at the baby sleeping silently. “You.. you d-didn’t plan her?” I question him, furrowing my eyebrows as I gaze down at the little baby in the pink onesie.
“No.. but she was an amazing surprise. Charlie was the only one we planned.” He informs me, shifting his head to look in my direction. I see him from the corner of my eye, I’m trying to hold back the urge to look over at him. My heart over powers my mind and within seconds.. my eyes are tangled with his, there’s no breaking this stare. “Can I show you something?” He says with a smile, his eyebrows furrowed tightly as he stares at me, awaiting my answer. I swallow the lump in my throat, might as well right?
“I um.. I guess.” I laugh a little at his eagerness – he changed the subject pretty quickly, perhaps he was over talking about it. I can understand that, it’s a hard topic for him – at least I assume it is. Mr. Styles leans off the crib and swiftly takes a hold of my hand, his large palm pressed tightly against my much smaller one. He pulls me behind him as he leaves the nursery, the door doesn’t shut behind me though.
Mr. Styles escorts me down the hallway some before we appear in front of his bedroom door. I hold my breath tight in my lungs, I have never been in his room. He’s never really gave me a reason to go in here so I never did, out of my respect for his privacy. He opens the door and yanks me in with a chuckle leaving his mouth – his laugh makes me have shivers, but the good kind. “Thankfully, I never slept in the same bed as that whore.” He says, glancing over my shoulder with a smirk. My eyebrows shoot up in quite shock at that, I honestly had no clue about that.
My eyes widen as I look around his room.((link)) The room looks so comfortable and just simply amazing. I’m not going to lie, it’s more elegant than I first expected it would be. I mean Mr. Styles is a fancy man, but I didn’t realize he was so wondrously simple. I didn’t notice I had stopped walking until Mr. Styles gave my hand a tug and his laugh filled my ears. “C’mon, love.” He nods his head in the direction he was planning on leading me. The corners of my mouth lift upward, I can feel my cheeks literally burning.
Mr. Styles continues walking, me following behind him – his hand still clutching mine tight. Confusion flows through me as he opens a door and I see his closet. Um? What exactly he is about to show me? The closet is huge, it definitely fits the rest of the house. His clothes line the wall, neatly placed and organized. He stops in his tracks and turns to face me, his hand never letting mine go. “Don’t worry, there’s more.” He chuckles lightly as he pulls me a few inches closer to him. “Promise you won’t tell anyone?” He states rather than asks, his eyebrows raising high as he looks down at me.
“I won’t tell.” I say with a nod, assuring him of my promise. He gives me a grin before turning on his heel, jerking me to follow him once again. He takes me to the corner of the large closet, where a curtain hangs from the ceiling. “You’re the only person I’ve brought in here. Not even that whore has seen it.” He says with a convincing smirk. “Why.. why are you showing me?” I ask in a mumble, confused on why this has to be shown to me.
“I trust you.” His shoulders rise and fall quickly as he replies to me. Short and simple, I believe him. He pulls the curtain back with his free hand, revealing a door to my eyes. I knit my eyebrows, is this his secret room or something. Mr. Styles turns the shiny silver knob and opens the door. It’s dark, that’s all I know as of now. He steps into the darkness and I hear a small click noise. Seconds later the dim lights come on and all I’m met with is a narrow staircase, steep wooden stairs leading upward. I realize, however, the lights are by the stairs themselves instead of hanging from the ceiling. ((link))
Mr. Styles captures my attention as his hand releases mine. I look up at him, slightly upset from the loss of contact with him. “Ladies first, darlin’.” He smirks gently, his hand gesturing me to go up the stairs. I hesitate at first, but the temptation of seeing what he’s hiding from the world got the best of me. Soon I find myself nearly halfway up the stairs. Mr. Styles followed in my footsteps after shutting the door.
“Go ahead and open the door when you reach it.” Mr. Styles insists, his voice closer than I expected. I nod a few times as I hurry up the rest of the stairs, I can’t help being nosy sometimes. “No rush, honey. It’s not going anywhere.” He chuckles behind me as his hand grabs a hold of my shirt. I stop in my place and let out a few laughs, I’m so ready to see it though. “I’m just excited.” I say, feeling the grin come to my face as I turn myself around on the step. He’s two steps below me, but yet his height is equivalent to mine.
“ ‘m sorry about earlier.. I didn’t mean to be so rude.” Mr. Styles sighs out, his eyes looking straight into mine. “I.. I disrespected you, I’m sorry.” I breathe out, nervous about his sudden decision to talk about this. “Don’t apologize. Let’s put it behind us, yeah?” He asks, cocking an eyebrow at me in question. “Yeah.” I smile half-heartedly at him. “Alright, go silly. Since you’re so anxious.” Mr. Styles points towards the top of the staircase. I spin around and continue up the steep stairwell.
“What is it?” I ask as I finally reach the door. He comes up behind me moments later and all I hear is a chuckle from him. He reaches around me, his body pressing against mine. I bite the inside of my cheek – this closeness is making the butterflies go nuts inside of me. He turns the handle and opens the door, lightly shoving me inside of the room. He flicks the lights on and my eyes light up at the sight.
Oh my gosh.
